The Totem Pole

The Totem Pole and Yei Bi Chei are heavily eroded rock formations on the eastern side of the valley. The sand dunes look pristine in this morning shot, yet upon closer look reveal there is indeed some traffic in the desert - rodents, snakes and beetles. The Totem Pole stands 116 m tall and featured in the 1975 Clint Eastwood film "The Eiger Sanction".
